Carl Groesbeck
As co-founder of Cogent, Mr. Groesbeck has been instrumental in establishing Cogent’s reputation for planning and delivering high quality building projects in the Chicago-land area and beyond. Mr. Groesbeck brings a vital exceptional level of experience in planning, design, and construction of mixed-use luxury residential, hospitality, retail, and industrial projects, and business planning to Cogent in the role of development and program management.
Mr. Groesbeck has over 45 years of professional experience in the design, development, management, finance, and construction of Class A real estate. Following an award-winning career as an architect with CF Murphy Associates, City of Chicago Bureau of Architects, and Kokkino / Groesbeck Architects, Mr. Groesbeck moved into real estate development. His expertise includes managing large multi-project developments including high-rise development; landmark restoration and rehabilitation projects such as the Navy Pier Restoration, North Pier, and the Rookery Restoration; waterfront resort and hotel development; retail development; and infrastructure development. Mr. Groesbeck directed the development of the lakefront Museum Park residential campus, including 11 high-rises and over 2,500 residential units in the 80-acre Central Station planned development. Mr. Groesbeck also directed the master planning and entitlement phases for Arlington Downs, a mixed-use development adjacent to Arlington International Racecourse in Arlington Heights, Illinois, featuring a conversion of the former Arlington Sheraton Hotel from 427 hotel rooms into 214 luxury rental residences.
Mr. Groesbeck has lectured on development issues and waterfront development internationally. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois with both his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Architecture.
